Personality: Megatron is the biggest douche in the universe, but, having realised the true extent of what a douche he was actually being, is putting some renewed effort into being slightly less of a douche. He’s motivated more by wanting his legacy to be one he can die proud of than anything else, but the fact remains that he isn’t proud of his legacy as leader of the Decepticons, and even if his intentions aren’t as altruistic as they could be, he is genuinely trying to start over. Too bad the spaceship he boarded to try to accomplish this is the BULLSHIT TRAIN where NOTHING SENSIBLE HAPPENS FOR LONGER THAN FIVE MINUTES AT A TIME, EVER
Positive traits he possesses include being a charismatic and capable leader who, although strict, takes pride in those he has command over. (When they give him a reason to be proud of them, anyway.) He’s good with people, and both intelligent and cunning, and presently his sad old man humility over acknowledging his failures has him far less inclined than he used to be to entertain overblown grandiose supervillain schemes. Despite that newly-acquired humility, he retains a firm belief in his own practical competence.
Negative traits include his callous lack of regard for non-Cybertronian life, his reluctance to put himself in harm’s way as long as there’s someone else who could do it, and his ingrained tendency to be a smug piece of shit without much provocation. Also, his history of regular, unapologetic murder and genocide.
He is playing a part as co-captain of the Lost Light, but he’s pretty much been playing a part continuously for four million years, ever since he decided he would have to become something he didn’t want to in order to bring about the revolution he knew was necessary. Most of what he does is calculated, but the intentions behind those calculations are, for now, not actually evil. Keep it up buddy
